Fiscal Responsibility: The city has worked hard to maintain fiscal responsibility, earning awards of accountability from theGovernment Finance Officers Association(GFOA)for Excellence in Financial Reporting as well as theAuditor of State Award with Distinctionfor multiple years.Additionally, the city has earned the Taxpayer Hero Award which is awarded to acknowledge state and local government officials who demonstrate initiative to cut costs and/or increase efficiency within their respective entities or to protect tax dollars and uphold the integrity of government in Ohio.
Investment in infrastructure – The city has invested millions of dollars in roads and utility services. We have been able to leverage tens of millions of dollars of local, state and federal grants to multiply the impact of our investments. I am proud to say that Norton’s roads have never been better.
Economic Development/Job Creation:We have focused our efforts on creating a business-friendly community and making Norton nationally competitive for high paying jobs.We have utilized targeted economic development incentives to create over 500 high paying jobs since 2019.We have welcomed this private investment in the city and because of it, national retailers are now willing and eager to also invest in our community.
Improvements to City Parks:We have increased our investments in our city parks to provide amenities that the residents desire.Recent improvements include a nearly one-mile walking trail at Columbia Woods Park, and we partnered with the Kiwanis to construct a performance stage.This venue hosts our popular summer concert series.We have recently repaved the parking lots at Columbia Woods Park and Loyal Oak Park and have also invested in our athletic fields to make sure our children have high quality fields and recreational opportunities.
SRO/School Safety:The City has partnered with the Norton City School District to provide a full-time School Resource Officer.We appreciate the relationship with our schools and welcome the opportunity to partner with them for the safety of our children.
